Finding a way to spend quality time together as a family can sometimes feel like a full-time job. Between school schedules, work commitments, and the endless distractions of screens and social media, the moments where everyone is truly "present" can be few and far between. We often ask ourselves: How can we find an activity that keeps the kids engaged, helps the adults stay fit, and doesn’t break the bank?

At New Direction Services CIC, we believe that the best solutions are often the simplest ones. We are thrilled to offer our weekly family kickboxing sessions: a space where Mum, Dad, and the kids can put down the phones, put on some comfortable clothes, and move together. It is about more than just fitness; it is about building a stronger, more resilient family unit.

Why Choose Kickboxing for Your Family?

When most people think of kickboxing, they imagine intense competition or professional athletes. However, at New Direction Services, we approach it differently. For us, kickboxing is a tool for empowerment, coordination, and, most importantly, fun. It is a universal language of movement that anyone can learn, regardless of their starting fitness level.

Physical activity is a cornerstone of well-being. By engaging in regular movement, we release endorphins that improve our mood and reduce stress. For families who might be navigating difficult times: whether that is recovering from past trauma or managing the daily anxieties of modern life: finding a healthy outlet for energy is crucial. Kickboxing allows you to channel your focus into something positive and productive.

Step by step, we guide you through basic techniques. You will learn how to stand with confidence, how to move with agility, and how to strike with precision. These are not just physical skills; they are life skills. They teach us about discipline, respect for ourselves and others, and the power of persistence.

Making Fitness Accessible: The £20 Family Deal

We know that the cost of living is a concern for many families in our community. High gym memberships or expensive sports clubs can often feel out of reach, especially for larger families. Our mission as a Non-Profit Organization is to remove these barriers.

We are proud to offer our family kickboxing sessions for just £20 per week for a family of up to five direct members. This includes Mums, Dads, and the children. We have kept this price low and the payment structure flexible because we want you to focus on your progress, not your wallet. There are no complicated contracts or hidden fees: just a straightforward, pay-weekly system that works for real life.

By choosing a weekly session, you are making a small but significant commitment to your family’s health. It becomes a ritual: a time of the week that everyone looks forward to. You can find more about our various programs on our services page to see how we support different groups across the community.

Building Resilience Together

At New Direction Services CIC, we see firsthand how physical activity can change a person’s outlook. Resilience is not something we are born with; it is something we build. When a child learns a new kick or a parent masters a challenging combination, they are proving to themselves that they are capable of growth.

For teenagers who may feel vulnerable or anxious, the structured environment of a kickboxing session provides a sense of safety and predictability. It gives them a space where they can be strong and where their efforts are celebrated. We often talk about the importance of supporting young people, and we find that movement is one of the most effective ways to build a bridge between parents and teens.

When you train together as a family, you are leveling the playing field. Everyone is learning at the same time. You can encourage each other, laugh at the mistakes, and celebrate the small wins. This shared experience fosters a deep sense of connection that carries over into the home.

What to Expect in a Typical Session

If you have never stepped foot in a martial arts studio before, don’t worry. Our sessions are designed to be welcoming and low-pressure. We keep things simple because we want everyone to feel they can succeed from day one.

  1. The Warm-Up: We start with light movements to get the heart rate up and the muscles ready. This usually involves fun drills that even the youngest members of the family can enjoy.
  2. Skill Building: We introduce a specific technique, such as a jab or a front kick. Our instructors demonstrate the move clearly and help each family member get the form right.
  3. Partner Work: This is where the real bonding happens. You might practice combinations with your children or your partner using pads. It is a great way to work on communication and teamwork.
  4. Cool Down and Reflection: We end the session by stretching and taking a moment to breathe. It is a time to acknowledge the hard work everyone put in.

We believe that being active should be a joy, not a chore. By keeping the atmosphere casual and friendly, we ensure that families want to come back week after week. You can see some of our techniques in action on our videos page to get a feel for the environment.

A Safe Space for Everyone

Our organization has deep roots in supporting those who have faced challenges, including survivors of domestic abuse and women looking for a fresh start. We understand that walking into a new environment can be intimidating. That is why we prioritize creating a safe, inclusive space for everyone who walks through our doors.

For the women in our community, we also run regular 4-week kickboxing courses and sessions at WomenCentre Huddersfield. These sessions are specifically tailored to provide a supportive atmosphere where women can reclaim their strength and confidence. Whether you are joining as part of a family or attending our women-only sessions, the goal remains the same: empowerment through movement.

Our commitment to our community is outlined in our mission. We aren't just a fitness club; we are a Community Interest Company dedicated to making a positive impact in Kirklees and beyond.
